Beverly Hills Homes are Luxurious, Beautiful — and Expensive

The post Beverly Hills Homes are Luxurious, Beautiful — and Expensive appeared first on Homedit.
Beverly Hills is synonymous with luxury and that’s especially true when it comes to real estate. With a high concentration of celebrities and other high-net-worth individuals, it’s not surprising that the proportion of expensive homes being bought, sold and rented is higher than in many other areas of the country — double the median house…

Traditional elegance casual comfort living room
In the land of sunshine and warm weather, this Beverly Hills home is entirely focused on outdoor living. All the spaces are designed to blur the boundaries with the outside world. Created by Struere architects, the design pulls together some of the best aspects of modern LA homes into a house that’s fully engaged with its gardens and natural surroundings.
Designed by architect Gordon Kaufmann — who also designed the Hoover Dam, Greystone Mansion and the Hollywood Palladium — the 29,000-square-foot  Mediterranean mansion is all about Old Hollywood glitz and glamour.
The gated residence sits at the end of a winding driveway on the two-acre plot. Sweeping staircases ascend to a dramatic entry into the palatial house. The home’s seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms are accompanied by massive spaces like the two-story foyer and great room  — with a catwalk above. The expansive property also has a tennis court, swimming pool and a lawn with patios and lush landscaping.

Secluded, Warm and Comfortable

Few Beverly Hills homes are as famous or recognizable as the Beverly Hills Hearst Estate, not only for its storied history but also for its appearances in movies and music videos. The iconic 1926 home sold for .1 million to a real estate investor.
Set in a neighborhood characterized by Spanish-styled houses from the 1940s, this Beverly Hills home features modern twists on the materials traditionally used. While keeping the overall proportions in line with the neighborhood, Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects devised a design that is light and simple. Stucco, wood, and concrete feature prominently on the exterior of the 3,000 square-foot home, while the inside is modern and contains many elements that are a nod to the powerful simplicity of Japanese architecture.
Huge floor-to-ceiling glass doors dominate the main living space and can be opened completely to merge the room with the outdoor living space and pool area. The warmth of walnut wood in the sculptural staircase and integrated casework is a nice counterpoint to the more rigid vibe of the board-formed concrete wall. The upstairs master suite, features his and her bathrooms and closets and opens to a balcony overlooking the backyard and distant skyline. The home also has a workout room, home office with treetop views, and two bedroom suites,

Extra Breathing Room

Designed as a long, attenuated construction that is open and gracious despite its restricted size, this Beverly Hills home in Coldwater Canyon is a thoroughly modern and astonishing home. Faced with a challenging narrow hillside property, Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects devised a 3,000-square-foot house that is a private oasis and makes the most of a difficult, deep and narrow one-acre plot. The main house has two levels and houses most everything except the project studio/guest house that sits at the other end of the lot.

Outside the walls, an entry garden and fountain are situated to the east, while a courtyard and reflecting pool are set on the west side. To the north, there is an outdoor garden while the southside infinity-edge pool has views of the city. Floor-to-ceiling glass and sliding glass doors allow the interior to meld with the outdoors.

Original Mid-century Beauty

A dream for entertaining, the home has massive double 14-foot custom wrought iron and glass entry doors leading to a two-story foyer and winding wood staircase trimmed with an elaborate iron railing. The main living area has a large central wet bar and there’s a newly renovated gourmet kitchen. The bottom level has a bar, fully functioning kitchen, home fitness center, 2.5 baths, and a laundry room.
Now, two housing bills — which have seen intense opposition — are moving forward to ease the situation. One allows duplexes to be built in most neighborhoods across the state and the second reduces environmental rules on multifamily housing, making it easier to add high-density development. It remains to be seen how these new rules will transform the market for homes in California. For now, Beverly Hills.

The estate includes a swimming pool and a pool house with its own bathroom and outdoor shower, as well as a guesthouse with a full kitchen and bedroom, plus an attached garage — currently tricked out as a gym. The outdoor features are what really distinguishes the low-maintenance property because there are organic vegetable gardens, patios, a gas fire pit and an outdoor fireplace. The whole plot is surrounded by hiking trails too.
Throughout the residence, plenty of natural light comes in through the large windows and skylights while the minimalist interiors keep the feeling light. Outside, wild grasses and olive trees are paired with. California native species and a 40-foot pool and is accompanied by plentiful space that creates a series of outdoor rooms for entertaining.
The late, great actor Carl Reiner owned two adjacent Beverly Hills homes for sale that recently sold for .8 million. While the two homes in the Beverly Hills Flats are beautiful, they will likely be redeveloped into a luxury compound on Rodeo Drive — a rare opportunity in today’s housing market. Together, the two properties total two-thirds of an acre and already have connected backyards. One home is a five-bedroom, 3,300- square-foot Spanish-style structure, while the second is a larger 5,500-square-foot traditional home.

Traditional elegance, casual comfort

Freshly redesigned with serene and comfortable interiors, the Beverly Hills house of Hollywood power couple Chrissy Teigen and John Legend was a bargain when it sold for .8 million. With ocean views and plenty of privacy, it’s an LA housing dream.

In Los Angeles where the weather is fine, the grassy yard and 10-foot deep pool are the perfect spots for relaxing. There’s also a hot tub large enough for 15 people and an outdoor kitchen with BBQ grills, wet bar, heaters, retractable TV and modern firepit. Oh yes — the backyard is actually three levels! All this can be yours temporarily for ,500 a month.
Besides the most expensive homes, California also has some of the most innovatively designed homes. Massive or modest, these custom homes feature architectural details and interior features that you won’t find in just any home. Have a look at these examples:
A rare find in the market of houses for sale in Beverly Hills, this -million Mid-Century Modern gem was purchased by Hollywood filmmaker Joe Roth. Built in 1961 by architect Daniel Dworsky, the home had a single owner from the 1960s until 2017, when new buyers committed to restoring the property, staying true to its architectural roots. The renovation stripped the 5,500-square-foot home to its studs and updated the systems in the home, but still preserved the original floors and fireplace.

Legendary and Luxurious

Packing a lot of style into a small footprint, this Beverly Hills home was once a barn that fell into disuse.  Walker Workshop revamped the structure into a design that takes full advantage of the panoramic views across the canyon and forges a strong connection with the 120 coast oak trees that are on the property.

In addition to seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms, the house has a cinema,  gym and playroom with ocean views. The main suite is a  large sanctuary with a private balcony, dual walk-in closets and an Italian marble soaking tub in the bathroom. the outdoor living space includes a heated saltwater pool and hot tub, and a very large outdoor kitchen area.
Boasting nine bedrooms and 15 bathrooms, the house has massive public spaces that can accommodate 1,000 people under the 22-foot-high hand-painted ceilings. Besides two screening rooms, the home has an Art Deco nightclub that features a bar salvaged from Hugh Hefner’s old nightclub called Touch. The compound encompasses 3.5 acres and has two additional guest apartments, a pool house, tennis pavilion and a five-bedroom gatehouse. Waterfalls and an Olympic-size pool are among the highlights among the beautifully manicured lawns.
In fact, the exorbitant costs of California’s housing market are getting more scrutiny, as the governor tries to ease the state’s housing crisis. According to The New York Times, suburban homeowners have stood in the way of more housing being built in the state.

KISS star Gene Simmons sold his Beverly Hills home for million this year, opting for a quieter life in Lake Tahoe. The Benedict Canyon mansion is a 13,400-square-foot haven of luxury, where Simmons lived with his family and filmed his A&E reality series “Gene Simmons Family Jewels.”

By contrast, the bedroom and private areas of the home are buried underground in the bottom level. A lower-level courtyard allows air and light to flow into the hall of the bedroom level and a green roof protects the space. The most innovative element may be the 75-foot lap pool that bisects the house and is shadowed by one of the massive protected oak trees on the property.
Previously owned by Rihanna, the interiors were redone by Don Stewart of Desiderata Design, who soften the glossy style, adding incredible finishes to the 8,500-square-foot home. The most dramatic feature is the imported, hand-carved Thai teak ceiling in the great room.

A Redesigned Family Sanctuary

This Beverly Hills Home is set on top of a ridge and surrounded by panoramic views of the canyon. The design itself is a minimalist’s dream, but it also features a construction that literally takes a traditional residential home layout and turns it upside down. The architects at Walker Workshop highlight the main living spaces in the glass and concrete structure above ground. Structural concrete allowed the design to have long, column-free spans for a very wide-open feeling.

Reports are that the estate needs a little TLC, but the .5 million price tag was fueled by its location, which happens to be in one of the most sought-after areas of Beverly Hills: the Trousdale Estates. The added land and structures will be a great addition to the home that John and husband David Furnish live in, which has been redecorated and upgraded.

The outdoor areas of the property are tied to the interiors thanks to the arrangement of deeply layered sightlines and circulation through the home.

Composed of two horizontal volumes set perpendicular to one another, the void between them serves as garden, anchored by a tree in the center. In fact, the three looks like it is growing out of the middle of the house. Lots of glass, mid-century modern designs and all the creature comforts make the interior a vibrant space. Outside, the native plantings are low maintenance and together with the structure, the property reflects the sensibilities of Los Angeles.
Instead of moving from his long-time home for more space, music icon Elton John snapped up one of the houses for sale in Beverly Hills that happened to be right next door. This gives him an extra half-acre of breathing room and creates a full one-acre property. The previous owners sold it in an off-market deal after having owned it for decades and facing foreclosure several times.
